Will decide on hijab after looking into it deeply: Karnataka Minister
text_fieldsBengaluru: Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara said that no orders have been made regarding the lifting of ban on hijba, adding the government will look into it deeply, news agency ANI reported.
The hijab row that captured international attention is back in the news after a lull with chief minister Siddaramaiah promising to lift the ban on it.
‘We have not made any orders regarding hijab. CM Siddaramaiah himself said that even if it is done, we will check it. The government will take a decision after looking into it deeply,’ G Parameshwara told ANI.
Meanwhile, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader KT Rama Rao, calling out the Congress regime over not lifting the ban yet, said Congress never keeps its promise once coming to power.
‘They have not lifted the ban on hijab yet and the CM has said that they are thinking about it. People are seeing the behaviour of Congress--what they say before coming to power and how they change after getting power,’ KTR reportedly said.
The previous BJP government banned hijab for students in educational institutions, plunging the state into chaotic protests, which led to international attention.
Siddaramaiah told a public meeting that his government would lift the ban on hijab, bringing to fore the row.
‘We are thinking of withdrawing the decision (of hijab ban). We will discuss it. I have said this in response to a question. We have not done it yet,’ the Chief Minister reported said.
Former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai alleged that Siddaramaiah was using hijab row for political gains to cover up his government’s failures.
