New Delhi: Members belonging to two communities have clashed in the Jahangirpuri area in Delhi after a Hanuman Jayanti procession faced stone-pelting. The conflict that followed has injured many, including police, NDTV reported.

Video footage has surfaced featuring crowds on different sides of a road pelting stones at each other while police came making the those involved in the fight fall back.

Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana informed more areas near and around Jahangirpuri witnessed clashes. While the situation is under surveillance, forces, including Rapid Action Force, have been deployed to troubled areas. Though two policemen were injured, the nature of their injuries will be known after a further probe, Asthana told NDTV.

He tweeted that strict action would be taken against rioters, and he appealed to people not to give ears to rumours as well as fake news in social media.

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal condemned the violence on Twitter and appealed to everyone to maintain peace. He told the media in Delhi that country needs stability and order to progress. He said that it is the central government's responsibility to keep harmony in the national capital, and there are police and other agencies there.

NDTV reports that all the injured have been admitted to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital in Jahangirpuri.

According to Delhi Police, there was a scuffle at the procession, followed by stone-pelting on the procession and incidents of arson.
