Uttarakhand Police say no religious conclave at Roorkee, ban gathering

New Delhi: In the wake of the Supreme Court direction to the Uttarakhand government to ensure that no hate speech is given in the proposed religious gathering by the right wing group at Roorkee, the state police denied the permission to hold a mahapanchayat apart from imposing prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC.

Such religious conclaves organised by the right wing groups in several parts of the country created distrust and perversive atmosphere over the hates being spread against the minority in the country.

In the area where the gathering is proposed has been flooded with police personnel. The police have also registered an FIR against the organisers, citing the Supreme Court order.

Meanwhile, one of the organisers, Swami Anand Swaroop, a Haridwar-based religious leader, is reported to be stubborn on its plan to hold the conclave without the police permission. He has mentioned the attending of Dharam Sansad core committee members like Yatindranand Giri, Prabodhanand Saraswati, Parmanand ji Maharaj and others in the conclave.

He said the mahapanchayat has been announced to discuss police action and their failure to arrest the main culprits in the April 16 communal violence that took place in the village during a Hanuman Jayanti procession.

Anand Swaroop said that the conclave is decided to be held to discuss the police inaction on the communal violence on April 16 following the Hanuman Jayanti procession, in which several persons were injured and at least four vehicles were set on fire during the violence.

The Supreme Court, which is hearing a petition about the hate speeches at the events in Haridwar and Delhi's Burari, has asked the police for a status report on the matter.

The petition mentioned that speakers at the event in Haridwar -- organised by Yati Narsinghanand -- gave open calls for "genocide" of Muslims. Similar demands were made at an event in Delhi's Burari, organised by the right wing group Hindu Yuva Vahini, the petition said.
