Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh: A man in Uttar Pradesh’s Fatehpur allegedly killed his mother to settle the debt he incurred from online gaming by claiming her life insurance payout.

The accused, Himanshu who is addicted to popular online gaming, hatched the horrific plot to claim ₹ 50 lakh insurance after disposing off her body near the Yamuna river bank, NDTV reported citing police.

The accused kept playing on popular platform Zupee by borrowing, piling up debt in the process, police said.

When he realized he owed nearly ₹ 4 lakh, Himanshu thought up the ruthless plot to pay back creditors.

Police reportedly said the accused stole his paternal aunt’s jewellery to buy life insurance policies worth ₹ 50 lakh each for his parents.

When his father was away, the accused allegedly choked his mother, Prabha, to death and removed her body in a jute bag, and drove it in his tractor to Yamuna river bank.

When he returned from Chitrakoot temple, Himanshu’s father Roshan Singh did not find his wife and son at home.

He asked around before heading to his brother’s home but nobody knew where Prabha was.

It was then a neighbour reported that Himanshu was seen on the tractor near the river.

Police recovered the body from near Yamuna and when questioned, Himanshu revealed the shocking plot and was arrested.

‘The son was on the run after murdering his mother. We caught him and unearthed the sinister crime,’ senior police officer Vijay Shankar Mishra said.

The urge to make quick bucks through online gaming has been previously linked to similar crimes.
