UP custodial torture: Cops deny the knowledge of the return gift video

The police department in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur said they have no knowledge of the "return gift for rioters" custodial torture video.

BJP MLA Shalabh Mani Tripathi had shared a video on Twitter in which cops were seen mercilessly thrashing a group of nine men. He captioned the video "return gift for rioters". It was speculated that the incident took place in the Saharanpur police station.

The video went viral on social media two days after the Uttar Pradesh police detained several people protesting against remarks against Prophet Muhammad.

The cops told NDTV that they have no information about the video. "No one has filed a complaint and there is no investigation". An NDTV investigation found that at least five of the men in the video sustained severe injuries. The families appear to be scared to confront the cops with a written complaint.
