Thousands of people gathered outside the Basavakalyan police station on Tuesday night to demand that those responsible for the alleged attack on two Muslim school teachers in Basavakalyan, Bidar district, Karnataka, be held accountable.

A case was filed against some of the demonstrators, according to police, following a confrontation that resulted from the protest.

Police claim that Syed Imran, 31, and Mohammed Arif, 25, were attacked while taking a walk.

Five people have been taken into custody in relation to the assault, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Madolappa.

The accused were believed to have been under the influence of alcohol, he said, Maktoob Media reported.

Members of the Muslim community, however, alleged that the attack was deliberate and targeted.

The complaint claims that six or seven assailants attacked the two men with stones, injuring their heads, and threatened to kill them.

When demonstrators gathered outside the police station, tensions increased. Assistant Sub-Inspector Mukhtar Patel and other police officers were allegedly attacked by several demonstrators who threw stones.

Another case has been filed, according to police, against 49 members of the Muslim community for allegedly trying to attack police officers and lay siege to the station. As a precaution, more police officers have been stationed across the town, according to authorities, and the situation is now under control.

Additionally, the Bidar District Police issued a warning that anyone who posts inflammatory or hate-inciting content on social media that can upset the district's community harmony will face severe consequences.
