New Delhi: The External Affairs Ministry of India said on Thursday that what is going on in the Red Sea is a matter of concern for the country, Asian News International reported.

The ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "It is a matter of concern, not just for us, but for several international players. We have been discussing this with our interlocutors...the French President was here, with Iran when our External Affairs Minister travelled there, and also with the UAE President when he was here," ANI quoted.

We want to address maritime security, we want to address freedom of navigation, as to how we can secure these lanes," Jaiswal said.

He said that the Indian Navy is active and has been providing support to vessels in the sea in foreign waters along with Indian waters. Indian Navy has been widely appreciated for its efforts, too, he acknowledged.

He said that the Indian Navy is active in the Gulf of Aden, in the Arabian Sea, etc.

Earlier, MEA Minister S Jaishankar had spoken about the increase in threats to the safety of commercial maritime traffic. He was talking about the attacks in the Indian Ocean and the "vicinity of India. This is putting stress on India's energy and economic interests, he said and added that this would not benefit any party.

There were cargo ships attacked in the Indian Ocean region. The vessels include the one coming towards India, MV Chem Pluto, which had 21 Indians onboard. Indian Coast Guard Ship Vikram took the ship to Mumbai coast later.
