Mumbai: Following a BJP MLA's shooting of a Shiv Sena politician in Thane last week, former Shiv Sena corporator Abhishek Ghosalkar was shot and killed in Mumbai on Thursday over a land and money dispute.

Abhishek Ghosalkar is the son of former Shiv Sena MLA Vinod Ghosalkar and belongs to the Uddhav Thackeray faction. Ghosalkar had sought security due to a threat to his life.

According to sources, he was shot by Mauris Noronha, also known as Mauris bhai, a social worker who operates a non-governmental organisation in Borivali. The incident occurred during a Facebook Live. After shooting Ghosalkar, Mauris turned the gun on himself and died, New Indian Express reported.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray said he met with Abhisekh at Matoshree in the morning.

“It shows that there is no law and order left in the state. There is goonda raj in Maharashtra. Earlier, a ruling party MLA fired at a police station. This incumbent government rather than punishing criminals awards them posts and positions. We need to come together to throw out this incumbent government,” said Aaditya Thackeray.
