New Delhi: A Delhi University assistant professor has been found murdered inside her apartment in East Delhi's Vasundhara Enclave, according to local police.

The victim, Devosmita Paul, taught at Shivaji College and lived alone at Satyam Apartments. Her husband resides in Bengaluru.

The New Ashok Nagar Police Station received a distress call at approximately 2:35 pm from the victim's 49-year-old sister, Devarati Paul, who discovered the body.

According to authorities, the flat had been locked from the outside since the morning, and Devosmita had not been answering her phone. Fearing the worst, Devarati broke the lock to gain entry into the apartment, where she found her sister deceased.

Initial investigations suggest that the professor was struck on the head with a heavy object. Police noted a deep head injury and confirmed that the veins in her wrist had been severed.

The body has been transferred to LBS Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Detectives have ruled out robbery as a primary motive, noting that cash and jewellery inside the residence remained undisturbed.

"We have registered a murder case and formed multiple specialised teams to investigate the incident," a police spokesperson stated.

A senior officer added that investigators have already secured several strong leads and expect to arrest the suspect shortly.
