Mumbai: Reserve Bank of India (RBI)'s customer care on Saturday received a bomb threat from a caller who claimed to be the "CEO of Lashkar-e-Taiba", NDTV reported.

The call was received on the helpline number around 11 am with the caller threatening to blow up the central bank.

The terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba was behind the 2008 Mumbai attacks, killing at least 174 people.

It is reported citing sources that the caller said he was the "CEO" of the terror group and sang a song before issuing the threat. Mumbai Police have filed a case and are tracking down the caller.

The bomb threat to the central bank follows similar threats to several airlines over the several months, causing huge inconveniences to airlines.

In the latest incident of threat on Thursday, an IdiGo flight from Nagapur to Kolkata made emergency landing in Raipur.

The bomb threat reportedly turned out to be a fake one.

The central government asked social media platforms to stop the spread of such misinformation or lose exemptions they enjoy in India, according to NDTV.

The Information Technology Ministry earlier stated that bomb hoaxes affect the citizens alongside destabilising the country's economy.
