Jaipur: Rajasthan Congress MLA Ganesh Ghogra today tended his resignation, contending that he was not being allowed to work properly by local officials.

The resignation letter contends that despite being a ruling party MLA and the Youth Congress' state president, he was being neglected and his voice was being suppressed by the local administration and officers. The lawmaker also retweeted posts shared by Congress leaders about how he had not been allowed to work in his constituency.

He is also known to be a supporter of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

The development came a day after a case was registered against him for creating ruckus in the Dungarpur district over the distribution of land deeds at a government programme in Surpur village.

His dramatic resignation letter, where he resigns as an MLA but not from the party, is seen as ill-timed, especially after Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot successfully hosted the Congress brass in Udaipur and also took Rahul Gandhi to address a tribal rally in Dungarpur.

Mr Ghoghra was one of the prominent speakers at that rally.

The slightest political turbulence in Rajasthan raises concerns as the party is tenuously balanced between Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and his younger rival Sachin Pilot.

Whether Mr Ghoghra's resignation will be accepted or not remains to be seen but it is not something the party wants as it begins preparing for the next year's assembly polls.

Congress is seeking another term in the state, which has voted out the incumbent party in every election over the last three decades.

Earlier today, Congress suffered another blow in another poll-bound state. Gujarat leader Hardik Patel – who commanded a huge following among students during the quota row -- quit the party, with what was seen as harsh criticism of Rahul Gandhi.
