Mumbai: Indian Railways has renamed Osmanabad railway station in Maharashtra as Dharashiv. The Maharashtra government had earlier changed the name of Osmanabad city and district to Dharashiv. The proposal to change the name of the railway station was pending in the Railways. But now the Railways has approved the new name and new station code.

In light of the renaming of the station, the Mumbai Passenger Reservation System (PRS) will remain suspended from 11:45 PM on May 31 to 1:30 AM on June 1.

The Maharashtra government had earlier issued a notification on April 25, 2025, approving the renaming of Osmanabad station in the Solapur division to "Dharashiv." Following this, the Central Railway authorities granted approval and initiated the name change process, The Free Press Journal reported.

While the station's numerical code (01527246) will remain unchanged, the station code initials will now be updated from ‘UMD’ to ‘DRSV’, according to the report. The new name "Dharashiv" will be displayed in Marathi, Hindi, and English, it added.

Because of this, changes will be made to the reservation system, including updates to the station name and code. During this period of shutdown, changes related to the renaming of Osmanabad station to Dharashiv and other necessary updates will be carried out, it is learned.

However, passengers will still be able to claim refunds in accordance with railway rules, and Ticket Deposit Receipts (TDRs) will be issued as needed, the report said.

The name Osmanabad is named after the 20th-century ruler of the Hyderabad State, Mir Osman Ali Khan. Dharashiv is the name of a cave complex in Osmanabad dating back to the 8th century.
