Rahul Gandhi, MK Stalin, Sonia Gandhi among others pay final tributes to Oommen Chandy
text_fieldsBengaluru: The Congress workers in Kerala are grieving over the death of their beloved leader Oomen Chandy after a prolonged disease.
The former Chief Minister had been staying in Bengaluru at the residence of former Karnataka Minister T John getting treatment when he died at 4.23 am at Chinmaya Mission Hospital in city’s Indira Nagar, The News Minute reported.
The national Congress leaders including Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi showed up at T John’s residence to pay tributes.
They were accompanied by state Congress leaders including Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.
Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin on Tuesday was also among the prominent leaders who arrived there to see the leader for the last time.
The leaders are attending the opposition parties meeting in Bengaluru scheduled ón July 17 and 18.
Rahul Gandhi tweeted a picture of him with the 79-year-old leader from his cross-country march Bharat Jodo Yatra.
Paying glowing tribute to the departed leader, Rahul called him an ‘exemplary grassroots leader.’
‘Oommen Chandy ji was an exemplary grassroots Congress leader. He will be remembered for his lifelong service to the people of Kerala. We will miss him dearly. Much love and condolences to all his loved ones, he was quoted as saying.
Oommen Chandy was rushed to the hospital after developing shivering and low blood pressure before he passed away.
Senior Congress leaders from Kerala including Benny Behanan and KC Joseph visited the hospital to pay tributes to the leader.
