Patiala: Just hours after eating her birthday cake, a 10-year-old died of suspected food poisoning in Punjab.

Footage that went viral showed Manvi cutting the cake ordered online from a bakery in Patiala.

Her grandfather reportedly said that the entire family including her sister fell ill after eating the cake, while celebrating the day.

Harban Lal said that Manvi cut the cake at 7 PM on March 24 and the family fell sick by 10 PM with the sisters began vomiting.

Manvi complained of dryness in the mouth from extreme thirst and asked for water.

Later she went to sleep but the family rushed her to hospital as her condition worsened by the next morning.

Manvi was put on oxygen and ECG (electrocardiogram) but was declared dead soon afterwards.

The family believes the chocolate cake, ordered from 'Cake Kanha', contained some poisonous substance.

"The postmortem of the body has been done. A sample from the cake has also been sent for testing. We are awaiting the reports," they said.

Following the girl’s death, police have filed a first information report or FIR against the bakery owner.
