Police arrests pastor in UP for trying to convert people
text_fieldsBareilly/UP: Police arrested a pastor in Rampur district of Uttar Pradesh, alleging that the pastor incited some people of Scheduled Caste to convert to Christianity, PTI reported.
Police informed on Monday that Pastor Paulus Masih was arrested on Sunday night after they received a complaint that he tried to lure people into a conversion on the occasion of Christmas. The people belonged to Sohna village under the Patwai police station limits.
Police registered a case under sections 3 and 5(1) of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021, police said.
The complaint was filed by a person Rajeev Yadav, from the same village, Additional Superintendent of Police Sansar Singh said, adding that the arrest was carried out by SHO, Patwai, Harendra Yadav.
In another news, a BJP leader and MLA from the state claimed that more than 100 individuals from 20 families of Khurja adopted Hinduism on Sunday, PTI reported.
The president of a social organisation said that the conversion happened during a "Ghar Vapasi" programme organised by the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP).
Singh said that the programme brought back to Hindu society those who had left "Sanatan Dharma" some generations or years ago due to their situation or confusion.
She added that those converted took an oath to pray to Sri Ram, Sri Krishna and other Sanatan gods and goddesses here after.
