New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday unfurled the Tricolour to mark the nation's 75th Independence Day at the historic Red Fort.

Soon after Modi unfurled the Tricolour, following which the national anthem was played, the Indian Air Force (IAF) threw flowers from the sky.

Before that, Modi inspected the security arrangements as the historic Red Ford is all set to celebrate the 75th Independence Day.

The Prime Minister has also announced seventy-five Vande Bharat trains (VBT), similar to the Udan Scheme for flights, on 75th Independence Day of India while addressing the nation after hoisting the national flag.

He said that the country has resolved that the 75 VBTs will connect every corner of the nation in 75 weeks of Amrit Mahotsav of Independence.

"Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav", an initiative of the Union Government to mark 75 years of Independent India, is a tribute to freedom fighters and freedom struggle. On this occasion, a series of events are organised across the country.

PM Modi further said that new airports are being built in the country, and the UDAN scheme connects far-flung areas, which is unprecedented.

He also added that the capitals of north-eastern states would also be connected with the railway soon. The region would be connected to Bangladesh, Myanmar and southeast Asia.

He said that the gap between lives in villages and cities needed to be bridged. To build a new India he called for "Sabka Prayas" along with "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas". He emphasised that India has to march ahead with new pledges for the next 25 years.

Delhi's Red Fort, from where Prime Minister unfurls the national flag and address the nation, has been decorated with colorful flowers and numberous national flags across the premises.

Every year on the occasion of Independence Day, the Prime Minister of India along with his adress to the nation also makes some major announcements.

India's first Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru had unfurled the Tricolour for the first time on August 15, 1947 to mark India's Independence Day.
