PM Modi speaks with Netanyahu, discusses India-Israel strategic ties

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephonic conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday, during which the leaders discussed ways to further strengthen the India-Israel Strategic Partnership and reviewed regional developments.

The two leaders reaffirmed their shared resolve to combat terrorism with greater determination. Speaking on X, PM Modi said, “Glad to speak with my friend, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and convey New Year greetings to him and the people of Israel. We discussed ways to further strengthen the India-Israel Strategic Partnership in the year ahead. We also exchanged views on the regional situation and reaffirmed our shared resolve to fight terrorism with greater determination.”

Earlier, on December 17, 2025, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar called on Netanyahu in Jerusalem, conveying warm wishes from PM Modi. The two discussed enhancing cooperation between India and Israel across multiple sectors, including technology, economy, skills and talent, connectivity, and security.

Posting on X, EAM Jaishankar said, “Deeply appreciate the call on Prime Minister Israel Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem this evening. Extended warm wishes of PM Narendra Modi. Discussed deepening cooperation in technology, economy, skills and talent, connectivity, and security. Valued his perspectives on regional and global developments. Confident that our Strategic Partnership will grow from strength to strength.”

During the visit, Jaishankar also met Israeli President Isaac Herzog, where the two sides reviewed the India-Israel strategic partnership and its continued advancement. Sharing details on X, he wrote, “Honoured to call on President Isaac Herzog of Israel today. Conveyed warm greetings of President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Discussed our Strategic Partnership and its continued deepening. Reaffirmed India’s steadfast support for enduring peace in the region.”

Notably, PM Netanyahu also acknowledged his meeting with Jaishankar in Jerusalem in a post on X, highlighting the ongoing bilateral engagement.

This comes after a telephonic conversation between PM Modi and Netanyahu on December 10, in which they exchanged views on the situation in West Asia. During these talks, both leaders reiterated their zero-tolerance approach to terrorism and explored ways to further strengthen the strategic partnership for mutual benefit.

According to a Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) statement, “PM Modi reaffirms India’s support for efforts towards a just and durable peace in the region.” The statement added that both leaders expressed satisfaction over the continued momentum in the India-Israel Strategic Partnership and reaffirmed their commitment to further advancing ties. “The two leaders strongly condemned terrorism and reiterated their zero-tolerance approach towards terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. They also exchanged views on the situation in West Asia, including early implementation of the Gaza Peace Plan,” the PMO said.
