Chennai: An oncology doctor was stabbed seven times by a patient’s son at Kalaignar Centenary Hospital in Chennai on Wednesday morning.

The accused identified as Vignesh attacked Dr Balaji after alleging that the doctor had prescribed incorrect medication for his father.

The incident took place in the hospital’s Outpatient Department.

Dr Balaji, suffered severe injuries, is undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The assailant, Vignesh, a resident of Chennai, was immediately arrested.

Vignesh attacked the doctor with a small knife which he had secretly brought into the hospital.

Visiting the hospital later in the day, Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian stressed the need for setting up stronger security measures in hospitals.

Chief Minister MK Stalin announced a detailed inquiry into the incident alongside saying that Dr Balaji would receive all medical treatment.
