Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao's decision to procure 32 new cars, worth around Rs 30 Lakh each, for the state bureaucracy has incited severe outrage among the opposition, reports The News Minute. The Congress and BJP in the state said that the administration's decision was irresponsible, and they strongly condemn it.

Congress National spokesperson Sravan Dasoju said that the government was being "irresponsible and callous" in handling public money and alleged that the KCR lead administration pushed the state into a debt trap of 4 lakh crores. He also said that KCR didn't even bother to notice the fact that the state is ravaged by the pandemic, and it is under a severe financial crisis.

He further said that he wonders whether the current government has colluded with KIA motors to provide them with some financial relief in this Covid times, buying 32 KIA luxury cars for Additional Collectors.

Sravan pointed out why there is a need for new cars when older units lie at government work sheds. He went on to say that when there is no fund for medical infrastructure or ramping up beds in government hospitals, buy buses for state transport, new cars for bureaucracy is insensitive.

BJP Telangana spokesperson, Krishna Saagar Rao, questioned the state's "splurging" of public money and asked how KCR could spend Rs 11 crore for this when the state is vulnerable to the pandemic and battling to sustain public health. He said that many are dying of debt burden after the pandemic hit.

He also mentioned the recent statements by the state finance ministry about losing massive revenue due to the pandemic induced lockdowns and the need to increase the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management Act to raise more loans.

He said that BJP questions the Finance Minister's fiscal discipline in the current economic situation and stated that the procurement of new cars was horrendous and unthinkable at the moment. Meanwhile, Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar handed over the new vehicles to the Additional Collectors on Sunday.
