Not naming a PM candidate, not telling who will lead: Congress

New Delhi: Congress shifted its election strategy and said it will not be disclosed who will lead the opposition coalition.
Party chief Mallikarjun Kharge said: "We are not naming a PM candidate. We are not telling who will lead. We want to fight together. All like-minded opposition parties must come together in this fight against divisive forces. We should continue to strengthen our alliance ahead of the 2024 polls." He was speaking at the birthday celebrations of Congress ally DMK head and Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin.
Ahead of the 2019 general elections, the Congress had positioned itself as the leader of the alliance. Many regional party leaders including West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and Telangana CM K Chandrashekar Rao were unhappy with this. AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, and Bahujan Samaj Party leader Mayawati were also not on board. And seat-sharing talks fell through months before. BJP mocked the division in the Opposition camp and said the alliance will have a different Prime Minister for every day of the week.
The Congress on the final day of the plenary session in Raipur passed a resolution regarding the 2024 elections. It called for the unity of secular and socialist forces but did not disclose anything about taking lead even though alliance partners like Nitish Kumar asked for it.
