Not concerned with Government: Congress Sudhakaran disallowed from raising questions on NaMo app
cancel

Congress' Kerala unit President K. Sudhakaran has been disallowed from raising a starred question notice on NaMo App during the monsoon session in Parliament, citing the reason that the matter is not concerned with the Government of India.

Sudhakaran raised a notice in Lok Sabha to seek the Prime Minister's response on whether the NaMo mobile application was a personal application of the Prime Minister or a government-supported official application.

Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's NaMo app had drawn flak after the application was seen to be seeking donations under the name of government schemes even though the app or any other non-government body is not authorized to do so. The 'Narendra Modi' App had been receiving donations from the general public under a banner that reads: "Micro-Donate for a New India".

With the tagline "Support BJP with your Micro-Donation", it offers options to donate ₹ 5, 50, 100, 500, and 1,000. However, under "Cause for Donation" it lists the two key central government schemes - 'Swachh Bharat' and 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' besides 'Party Fund' and 'Kisan Seva'.

While questions are being raised on BJP's micro-donation program using names of government schemes, the BJP says that they take up various activities under the banner of Swachh Bharat and Beti Padhao Beti Bachao as they are common names.
