New Delhi: Travelling from Noida to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport is set to become far quicker, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurating two major expressways, the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) and the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway.

The projects are expected to cut travel time from Noida to IGI Airport to just 20 minutes, while easing congestion across Delhi-NCR. Officials said the access-controlled corridors will also reduce pressure on the city’s arterial roads by providing uninterrupted connectivity.

The UER-II, described as Delhi’s new “outer ring road”, is a 76-kilometre corridor stretching from Alipur to Mahipalpur near the airport. Built at a cost of about Rs 7,716 crore, the 4–6 lane highway passes through Mundka, Bakkarwala, Najafgarh and Dwarka, and connects to major routes such as Delhi–Chandigarh, Delhi–Rohtak and Sonipat.

Alongside, Modi will inaugurate the 29-kilometre Delhi stretch of the Dwarka Expressway, linking the Kherki Daula toll plaza to Shiv Murti at Mahipalpur. The Gurugram section of the Rs 9,000 crore project was opened in March 2024. Constructed in four packages, the expressway is designed to improve traffic flow towards the airport, Gurugram and Jaipur.

According to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), UER-II was planned under the Delhi Master Plan 2021 and includes 54 kilometers within Delhi and around 21 kilometers in Haryana. It features eight lanes, service roads, four multi-level interchanges and several underpasses.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and other BJP leaders are expected to attend the inauguration ceremony.
