The Mizoram government has reached out to the Centre, requesting Rs 10 crore in financial aid to assist over 10,000 individuals who have been displaced and sought shelter in the state due to the ongoing ethnic violence in Manipur.

Chief Minister Zoramthanga has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi twice in the past month, specifically seeking RS 10 crore for the 10,700 people taking refuge in Mizoram, said Lalchamliana, the state's Home Minister who also oversees the Disaster Management and Rehabilitation department. The Union government has made no response to this request yet.

To address this urgent matter, a delegation led by Sports Minister Robert Romawia Royte will be dispatched to Delhi from Mizoram.

In addition to the displaced individuals from Manipur, Mizoram has already provided shelter to a significant number of refugees. This includes 34,278 individuals from Myanmar's Chin state following the military coup in February 2021 and 773 refugees from the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) in neighboring Bangladesh. The refugees from Myanmar, including women and children, are currently being housed in various districts across Mizoram, underscoring the pressing need for support and assistance in managing the situation.
