Cops find their former colleague begging after 15 years

Gwalior ( Madhya Pradesh): Two police officers here were still reeling in shock days ago, after they found their missing colleague begging in the streets fifteen years later.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Ratnesh Singh Tomar and his colleague Vijay Bhadoriya were on bypolls duty for the last few days.

On November 10, they were passing through Jhansi Road, when they saw a middle-aged beggar shivering in cold on the footpath.

They pulled up the vehicle to help the man. Ratnesh gave his shoes to the beggar while Vijay offered him his jacket. Afterwards, they struck up a conversation with the beggar.

Suddenly, it turned out both the officers had the hunch they were talking to their former colleague Manish Mishra, who had gone missing years ago.

Mishra was a police officer and a good shooter. He had joined the police service in 1999 and had also served as the station in-charge in many parts of the state. In 2005, Mishra suddenly disappeared after losing his mental balance.

People who know Mishra told he could not be traced. Meanwhile, his wife had deserted him. Mishra had been spending his life on the footpath for around 15 years, meeting his ends by begging, according to IANS.

Ratnesh and Vijay tried to remind Mishra of the old days and asked him to come along with them. As he was reluctant to come with them, they handed over Mishra to a social welfare organisation, where he is being taken care of.

Many in Mishra's family are serving in police service, including his sister. His wife is also an official in the judicial service.

Mishra is currently getting treatment.
