Srinagar: An unidentified militant was killed in an ongoing gunfight in South Kashmir on Monday, police said.
The gunfight broke out between militants and security in Noorpora area of Awantipora belt of Pulwama district when joint team of forces launched a cordon and search operation on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.
"As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them which was retaliated triggering an encounter. In the encounter one militant has been killed so far," a police officer said.
The operation is still underway.
