Indore: The Indore police have filed an attempted murder case against approximately twenty people who confronted a man after he was seen riding with a hijab-clad woman as a pillion, allegedly over her preference to go out for dinner with a man from outside her community.

A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, showing a group of men berating the woman for her decision to accompany a non-Muslim man for dining. In the video, the men can be heard telling the woman that her actions are against Islamic law.

Despite one of the men assuring that the bike rider, identified as Bhavesh, would not be physically harmed and demanding the woman to speak up, she clarified that she had her parents' permission. However, an unidentified individual from the crowd began physically assaulting Bhavesh.

Amidst the tense confrontation, a visibly petrified Bhavesh, who was riding the two-wheeler, found himself at the centre of the escalating conflict. The agitated man in the video made it clear that he had no intention of physically harming Bhavesh, but demanded to speak to the woman. He questioned her choice to dine with a non-Muslim, suggesting that she should have ordered food online instead.

In the midst of the heated exchange, chaos erupted as an unidentified individual from the crowd began physically assaulting Bhavesh. While the subsequent events remain unclear due to the video's quality, the cries of onlookers pleading for the assault to stop can be heard. Prompt action was taken by the Madhya Pradesh Police, who swiftly arrested two individuals and named seven others as accused in the case.

Expressing his concern over the incident, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan ordered the Indore Police Commissioner to ensure strict action is taken against the perpetrators. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Rajesh Singh Raghuwanshi, shed some light on the events, revealing that the woman and Bhavesh, both students, were followed by the men after leaving a hotel following their dinner. The accused subsequently stopped them nearby and proceeded to interrogate the woman.

In her defence, the woman maintained that she had obtained her parents' consent. Unfortunately, the situation escalated, resulting in her friend, Bhavesh, being subjected to an assault. As a result, the police have filed an attempted murder case, and all the accused have been named, with seven individuals currently identified.

The authorities have already apprehended one of the accused, Shoeb, who allegedly attacked Himanshu Patel, an individual who tried to intervene during the altercation. Another person, Yash Joshi, was also targeted by the aggressive mob. Bhavesh, who suffered severe injuries as a result of the assault, is currently receiving medical treatment at a private hospital.
