Marco Rubio to visit India from May 23 for talks on trade, defence, and energy
text_fieldsUS Secretary of State Marco Rubio will visit India from May 23 to 26 for talks aimed at strengthening cooperation in trade, defence, energy, and security.
The US Department of State said Rubio will travel to Kolkata, Agra, Jaipur, and New Delhi during the four-day visit.
State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said Rubio would hold meetings with senior Indian officials to discuss energy, security, trade, and defence cooperation.
Rubio will arrive in India after attending the NATO Foreign Ministers meeting in Sweden on May 22.
India is also set to host a meeting of Quad foreign ministers in New Delhi on May 26. The meeting is expected to focus on key global challenges, including the fallout of the West Asia crisis.
The Quad meeting is scheduled to be attended by Rubio, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, and Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu. Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will preside over the discussions.
