New Delhi: The Congress Working Committee will meet today, but Manmohan Singh is not expected to attend in light of the debacle the party suffered in the just-concluded assembly elections.

He will not be attending the meeting due to poor health, they said.

The top body meeting of the party will also be missed by AK Antony and three senior leaders in addition to Dr Singh.

This meeting, scheduled for 4 pm, will be attended by 57 top Congress leaders.

The Congress Parliamentary Strategy Group met at Sonia Gandhi's residence today to map out the party's strategy for the Budget Session, which begins tomorrow. Dr Singh was spotted absent from the meeting.

Members of the Congress attended the meeting at Sonia Gandhi's house, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Anand Sharma, K Suresh, and Jairam Ramesh.

Singh has been ill for years. He was hospitalized for a heart condition at AIIMS in Delhi last year.

Singh has already been through several cardiac bypass surgeries before. His most recent one was done in January 2009.

In his capacity as a Rajya Sabha member, Singh is very active in public life.

Sonia Gandhi appointed him as the chair of an 11 member internal committee in April 2020 to formulate the Congress party's position on major national issues in the wake of the growth of the Coronavirus pandemic.
