Chandigarh: Punjab police killed the key accused in the murder case of an RSS activist, Naveen Arora, during an encounter in Ferozepur in the state. The accused, named Badal, who was on the run, was killed in a gunfight, India Today reported.

Police said that two suspects opened fire when their team reached a cremation ground in Fazilka on Wednesday. The police were there to recover weapons and arrest Badal’s accomplices. In a brief gunfire exchange, Badal was shot and captured, they said.

During the exchange, a head constable also got injured by a gunshot, and he, along with Badal, was rushed to the hospital. After this, the accused succumbed to his injuries, police said.

They also added that further investigation into the case is going on.

On November 15, the RSS worker Naveen Arora was killed. Naveen, son of RSS leader Baldev Raj Arora, was shot at by two motorcycle-borne assailants at Ferozepur.

Police made several arrests during a probe into the man’s murder. Police arrested a key accused, Gursimran Singh, last week in a separate gunfight in Arifke village. They also apprehended two more people, identified as Harsh and Kanav. The duo were believed to be involved in the planning and the execution of the murder of Naveen Arora.
