Kashmiri separatist Asiya Andrabi, 2 others guilty in UAPA terror case

New Delhi: A Delhi NIA court convicted Kashmiri separatist leader Asiya Andrabi and two associates on Wednesday for terror conspiracy and membership in a banned outfit.
Andrabi, founder of the all-women group Dukhtaraan-e-Millat, was arrested in April 2018 by J&K Police for planning protests in Anantnag. In July 2018, NIA took custody of her, Nahida Nasreen, and Fahmeeda Sofi from Srinagar jail.
The agency charged them under UAPA for terrorist membership, waging war against India, sedition, and conspiracy. Formal charges came in February 2021.
Additional Sessions Judge Chander Jit Singh found them guilty under UAPA sections for conspiracy and terror group membership. IPC convictions included promoting enmity, anti-national statements, war conspiracy, and public mischief.
Sentencing arguments are set for Saturday.
Andrabi is the second major separatist convicted post-Article 370 abrogation, after Yasin Malik. The case underscores intensified action against Valley hardliners.
