Tiruchy: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and actor Vijay is said to have reached out through video calls to several families who lost relatives in the Karur campaign rally stampede that left 41 people dead, party sources confirmed.

According to insiders, the calls were made on both Monday and Tuesday. The outreach was reportedly coordinated by Dr K.G. Arunraj, TVK’s General Secretary for Propaganda and Policy and a former IRS officer, who along with a team from Chennai visited grieving families in Gandhigramam, Pasupathipalayam, and nearby villages. The team is said to have met about five families so far.

One of the victims’ relatives in Emur Pudhur told TNIE that Vijay contacted them via video call to personally extend condolences. The family said the actor assured them he would support them like a brother and expressed profound grief over the tragedy, calling it an irreparable loss, TNIE reported.

The brief video calls, lasting around five minutes, were conducted with a request from the team not to record or photograph the conversations. Sources indicated that Vijay also promised to visit the families in person and mentioned plans for relief assistance.

Efforts to reach Dr Arunraj for comment were unsuccessful, though his team is understood to be continuing family visits on Tuesday.
