Karnataka constable denied bail for sexually exploiting minor girl

Bengaluru: Police constable arrested on charges of sexually exploiting a minor rape survivor has been denied bail by the Karnataka local court.
The order was issued on Thursday by the Puttur Fifth District and Sessions Court.
On September 28, the accused cop, a police constable attached to the Kadaba police station in the district of Dakshina Kannada, was arrested.
A charge sheet regarding the case was submitted by the police, and a court rejected his bail plea after 100 days following his arrest, taking into account the serious nature of the case.
The accused sexually exploited the minor girl on the promise of marrying her. Her parents became aware of her pregnancy at five-and-a-half months and questioned the accused. He told her parents to have the abortion done so he could give them the money. He flatly refused to marry the girl.
A complaint from the victim's father brought to light the horrific incident. The police officer had kept the victim and her mother captive, and they were kept in an undisclosed location by the accused. Investigators revealed that the policeman transferred Rs 35,000 from his bank account to the phone of the victim's mother, who arranged for the abortion.
Chief Superintendent of Police for Dakshina Kannada District Rishikesh Bhagawan Sonawane said the accused would be terminated from the department. He also said the police would never take the accused's side.
As part of the investigation, the jurisdictional Kadaba police have registered cases under IPC Section 376 (2) (As a police officer or public servant, committing rape on a woman when taking advantage of his official position), 506 A(criminal intimidation), 5 (A), 5 (J) (ii)6 of POSCO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act 2012.
