Bengaluru: A 21-year-old college student, daughter of Niranjan Hiremath who is a Congress councillor at the Hubballi Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC), was stabbed to death by a fellow classmate at the college premises on Thursday, The Indian Express reported.

The accused, identified as her classmate Fayaz, was seen on CCTV footage stabling Neha Hiremath multiple times before fleeing the KLE Technological University where the murder took place.

The police have detained Fayaz and are investigating the reason behind the murder of the first-year MCA student.

Her body has been shifted to the Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) Hospital. Fayaz, son of government school teachers, stopped going to college six months ago after failing in an examination.

“On Thursday, he came to college with a knife and stabbed Neha multiple times. He was nabbed with the help of locals and is presently in police custody,” an officer was quoted as saying.
