Jumbo attack: BJP slams Kntka for paying Kerala man compensation

Bengaluru: The Karnataka government announcing Rs 15 lakh compensation to the Kerala man who died in an elephant attack in Wayanad has been strongly criticised by the Karnataka BJP, Deccan Herald reported.

It was a tuskless elephant wearing a radio collar put by the Karnataka state that killed the Keralite Ajeesh on February 10.

Karnataka BJP president B Y Vijayendra alleged that the state Congress government was trying "to curry favour" Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi, misusing the money of Karnataka taxpayers, which was utterly disgraceful.

Vijayendra, also the MLA from Shikaripura, wrote on social media that the government illegally allocating Rs 15 lakh from the state fund to a deceased of Kerala, "falsely blaming" an elephant from Karnataka is an "appalling betrayal".

He argued that when the state is affected by severe droughts and farmers are committing suicide across it, the state government was shamelessly pleasing Rahul Gandhi, as he is the MP of the constituency where the man was killed.

He demanded that the Chief Minister and his cohorts must be held accountable for looting Karnataka taxpayer's money to cater for the greed of the Congress High Command.

According to him, despite its struggle to survive, the Congress keeps plundering every last rupee of Karnataka's treasury.

It was on Sunday that the Karnataka government informed that it had agreed to pay the compensation to the victim in line with the indemnity paid to the people of Karnataka killed by an elephant.

The state forest ministry said that the matter was taken to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and he agreed to pay the compensation.
