New Delhi: In yet another jolt to common man, the price of domestic cooking gas was hiked by ₹ 50 per cylinder on Saturday, the second increase in two months.

The price hike comes days after the price of commercial LPG cylinders was hiked by ₹ 102.50 earlier this month.

A 14.2-kg non-subsidized cooking gas cylinder, also known as an LPG cylinder, will now cost ₹ 999.50 in Delhi.

The rates of 14.2 kg LPG cylinder were previously hiked in March.

There was no increase in the price of this cylinder in the month of April.

Last week, the price of the 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder was hiked by ₹102.50 to ₹2,355.50 against the earlier price of ₹2,253. Meanwhile, the 5-kg LPG cylinder costs ₹655.

Prices vary from city to city depending on the incidence of local taxes such as VAT.

The latest surge comes at a time when people are already struggling with rising petrol and diesel prices.

Earlier in April, gas piped to household kitchens, called piped natural gas (PNG), was also increased by ₹4.25 per unit to cost ₹45.86 per SCM on the back of a surge in raw material cost.

A 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder now costs ₹ 2,355.50, up from the earlier price of ₹ 2,253.

After the assembly elections held in five states, the prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas are being increased continuously. On March 22, the subsidized domestic LPG cylinder increased by Rs 50. Earlier, after 6 October 2021, there was no change in the rate of domestic LPG cylinder.

Fuel retailers revise the prices of LPG cylinders at the beginning of every month.
