Insult-on-Prophet: Accused Nupur Sharm goes untraceable

New Delhi: After being named in police cases linking insult-on-Prophet row, suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma went untraceable. Multiple cases were registered against her from multiple states for her objectionable statements against Propet Muhammed, NDTV reported.

It was on May 28 that the Mumbai Police registered a case against Sharma, based on a complaint by Raza Academy leader Irfan Sheikh after the derogatory comments she stated in a TV interview. Her statements incited large-scale protests, which spread to Gulf nations etc.

A Mumbai Police team, now in Delhi to question Sharma, a native of Delhi, could not locate her, according to NDTV sources. The team has been in the national capital for the last five days pursuing her. According to Maharashtra Home Ministry, Mumbai Police has enough evidence to arrest Sharma.

In addition to the Mumbai Police case, Kolkata Police registered an FIR against Sharma on a complaint by Trinamool Congress minority cell general secretary Abul Sohail. On June 20, Kolkata Police summoned her for her statement. Further, Delhi Police also had filed an FIR against her.

After the furious backlash from the general public, BJP had suspended Nupur Sharma from the party, along with its Delhi media head, Naveen Kumar Jindal. In addition to protests across India, at least 15 nation such as Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar and Saudi Arabia expressed their displeasure and condemned both the BJP spokespersons' statements.

Later, Sharma withdrew her statement "unconditionally", stating that she was reacting to relentless insult and disrespect towards Lord Shiva.

Meanwhile, the Indian government had informed the Gulf nations that the controversial comments made by the duo reflected views of "fringe elements", though they were BJP's spokespersons, NDTV reports.
