Chennai: A passenger traveling from Tirunelveli to Chennai aboard Vande Bharat train got a shock of his life when he found insects in the meal severed to him.

Visuals circulating on social media showed black insects floating in the sambhar in the aluminium container, NDTV reported.

It is reported that others passengers on the train said that they were not satisfied with the quality of the food.

Sharing a similar video on platform X, Congress MP Manickam Tagore asked: ‘Passengers have raised concerns over hygiene and IRCTC's accountability. What steps are being taken to address this and ensure food safety on premium trains?’

Responding to the passenger’s complaint, the railways initiated ‘immediate investigation’ handing over the contaminated food to a health inspector at Dindigul station.

Later the railways said that the insect was stuck in the food package’s lid, adding that a fine of Rs 50,000 was levied on the service provider.

A similar incident was reported a few months ago on Vande Bharat train when a passenger complained of having found cockroach in his meal.

The medium-distance superfast express service have been introduced as a part of the Centre’s 'Make in India' initiative.
