India records 30,549 new Covid-19 cases in India in 24 hours, 24% lower than yesterday
text_fieldsIndia on Tuesday reported 30,549 fresh Covid-19 cases and 422 deaths over the past 24 hours. The country's recovery rate now stands at 97.38%.
The top five states which have registered the maximum Covid-19 cases are Kerala with 13,984 cases, followed by Maharashtra with 4,869 cases, Tamil Nadu with 1,957 cases, Andhra Pradesh with 1,546 cases and Karnataka with 1,285 cases.
77.4% of the fresh coronavirus cases have been reported from these five states, with Kerala alone responsible for 45.78% of it.
The test positivity rate in the state, after holding steady nearly all of July, is now inching upwards. Part of this surge might be attributed to the fact that the state had the lowest seroprevalence.
The high-level multi-disciplinary central team, which is currently visiting the state, is learnt to have concluded that inadequate monitoring of Covid positive cases in home isolation because of pandemic fatigue is the reason behind the surge. Kerala has the highest number of districts with a Covid-19 positivity rate of over 10%.
Among the 422 deaths, the maximum casualties have been reported from Kerala (118), followed by Maharashtra with 90 deaths.
A total of 38,887 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, which brings the total recoveries to 3,08,96,354 across the country. India's recovery rate now stands at 97.38%.
The country's active caseload now stands at 4,04,958 while in the last 24 hours, active cases declined by 8,760.
In a positive development, the Indian Council of Medical Research said, Bharat Biotech's vaccine Covaxin is effective against the Delta Plus variant of Covid-19. It may prove crucial in India's fight against Coronavirus as the variant is pedicted to cause the next wave of coronavirus infections in the country.
Meanwhile, by 7pm on Monday, 477,800,587 vaccine doses were given across the states and UTs. As many as 5,367,190 doses were administered on the day.
In the 18-45 age group, 2,776,234 were given the first dose while 482,253 doses were given as the second dose on the day. Cumulatively, 159,907,360 persons in this age group across the country have received their first dose and 9,386,280 have received their second dose as well since the start of Phase-3 of the vaccination drive.
