India Gate lights out for Earth Hour 2026: ‘Give an hour for earth’
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Iconic India Gate will plunge into darkness tonight from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. IST, joining Earth Hour 2026—the WWF's 20th anniversary global call to switch off non-essential lights for climate action.
Under the theme “Give an Hour for Earth,” the movement—born in Sydney 2007—unites millions across 190+ countries, from landmarks to homes, to spotlight sustainability.
India's cities are rallying: Hyderabad's GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan urged residents, “Every small action counts. By dedicating just one hour to the planet, we can inspire meaningful change and contribute towards a sustainable future.” Last year, India Gate, Rashtrapati Bhavan, and more went dark too.
Experts hail it as a spark for real impact—cutting energy use, protecting ecosystems, and pushing policy.
