Bengaluru: Industrialist Anand Mahindra recently took to Twitter to share a video of a vending machine serving idlis.

The video starts with a woman scanning a QR code in front of a vending machine. She goes on to select from the options available which include idlis and vada. Within moments, the machine is seen preparing and delivering idlis wrapped in a paper box at the collection window.

The idli vending machine is in Bengaluru and the industrialist thinks it has the potential to be a major cultural export. He tweeted: "So many have attempted to create robotic food prep/vending machines. (I) Presume this meets FSSAI standards & the ingredients are refreshed adequately? How is the taste, Bengaluru folks? I'd love to see this pop up in airports/malls globally. Will be a major 'cultural' export!"

The video has called the machine an 'idli atm' that works 24/7. The narrator says the machine is at a restaurant called Freshot and this is the first such experience centre. Customers can scan the menu and they will receive a token number. Then, they can choose any dish from the menu using their phone. Payment can also be done via phone after which the receipt can be scanned on the machine.

Once the payment is done, the machine will start a fully automated process to prepare the food. It will also provide toppings like chocolate. The woman on the video received her idli in 55 seconds. The machine will also keep showing updates about the order. The food is fresh and hot when delivered. The customer was seen giving a thumbs-up to the food while eating.

The video emphasises that the packaging is completely plastic-free

Many Twitter users commented on the video saying it will be a good addition to railway stations and airports. On the other hand, others said nothing beats the taste and warmth of handmade idli.
