Hindus shrank, need action to address population imbalance: RSS Leader

Lucknow: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh reiterated its demand for stringent action against religious conversions, which it said, are pushing the country into population imbalances.

The latest statement came from its general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale who said migration from border areas and religious conversions are causing population imbalances because of which the Hindu population declined to observable scale in the country.

Hosabale expressed his concerns at a four-day meeting of the RSS's all-India working committee held in Prayagraj on Wednesday. The RSS leader wants the governments to take strict action against religious conversion by implementing anti-conversion laws.

Hosabale's concerns about the declining Hindu population also prompted him to demand the formation of a population policy and its implementation on all.

The RSS leader found the cross-border infiltration as a major cause of population imbalance and also a cause of social and economic tensions. Hosabale claimed that population imbalance has led to the partition of several countries, including India, in the past.

Hosabale also cited population control as another factor for the imbalance and called it one of the concerns that to be addressed to maintain the young India status.

"Because of this, there is a possibility of a rise in the population of the elderly in comparison to youngsters in future years. That is a matter of concern," Hosabale said.

Hosabale urged the RSS cadres to involve in the activities of organisations such as the Arya Samaj and the Dharma Jagran Vibhag that work to bring back the Hindu fold who converted to other faiths and help prevent religious conversions.

"Still, conversions are taking place. Laws (to prevent conversion) exist in various places and these laws should be enforced. Earlier, such laws were introduced in Himachal Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh and Tamil Nadu," Hosabale said.

Hosabale said that RSS was of the view that converted people should not be allowed to get the benefits of reservation.
