HC asks Delhi Police if foreigners were prohibited from staying at the Tablighi meet last year

The Delhi High Court on Monday instructed the police to explain to the court if there were any provisions prohibiting foreign nationals from staying at the establishments provided for the Tamblighi Jamaat congregation in March last year who possessed valid passports and visas.

The court said no investigation had been conducted in these cases because the Delhi Police had not responded to the court's queries properly.Judge Mukta Gupta told the police after they failed to answer the question about the date of the foreigners' arrival in India, "Your officers should not be investigating officers."

The court added, "You need to provide me with materials so that I can make some decisions," and asked the police to record the status reports of all pending cases. Approximately 48 people are alleged to be involved in at least twelve FIRs that have been challenged before the High Court. The petitions seek a quashing of FIRs against Delhi residents who are accused of allowing attendees to live in mosques and their houses
