Germany not in favour of calling India to G7 over Russian stance: Report
text_fieldsNew Delhi: India is said to be in a list of countries as the potential guests of the Group of Seven to be hosted by Germany in June. While Germany has confirmed the attendance of some countries, inviting India to the summit is being debated for its stand on Russian invasion of Ukraine, according to the Bloomberg.
Germany is reported to have sent an invitation to Senegal, South Africa and Indonesia to be guests in the summit, but a call to Prime Minister Narendra Modi is still in the consideration. Reports suggest that India had been there in the invitee list before Russian invasion.
India is accused of not taking a stand against Russia, nor condemned its Ukranian invasion. India was among the more than 50 countries that abstained from a United Nations vote to suspend Russia from the UN Human Rights Council, and has not imposed sanctions on Moscow.
G7 nations are the first to come out seeking action against Russia. They have also helped Ukraine in obtaining weapons. They have also pursued many countries to put limits on trade and investment with Russia, including on energy. But many governments in Latin America, Africa, Asia and the Middle East remain reluctant to do so.
