GE Aerospace on Monday announced a fresh investment of Rs 100 crore in its Pune manufacturing facility as part of efforts to expand production capacity and strengthen its operations in India.

The company said the investment will fund infrastructure upgrades, new welding technologies, advanced inspection equipment, precision tools, gauges, and fixtures at the facility, which manufactures critical components for commercial aircraft engines.

With the latest announcement, GE Aerospace’s total investment in the Pune facility has crossed Rs 510 crore over the past three years, including Rs 410 crore invested earlier.

The company said the upgrades are aimed at increasing manufacturing capacity, improving process precision, and supporting the production of high-quality components for global customers.

The Pune facility currently works with more than 300 local suppliers and is part of GE Aerospace’s wider network of over 2,200 suppliers across India.

Vishwajit Singh, Managing Director of GE Aerospace Pune manufacturing facility, said the investment reflected the company’s commitment to manufacturing in India and supporting skill development in the aerospace sector.

Since 2015, the facility has trained more than 5,000 production associates, helping build aerospace manufacturing talent in the country.

The earlier investments focused on automation, manufacturing process improvements, and capability enhancement for next-generation engine components.

According to the company, the latest expansion will support component production for GE Aerospace’s GE90, GEnx, and GE9X engines, along with CFM International’s LEAP engine programme.

CFM International is a joint venture between GE and Safran.

More than 1,400 GE and CFM commercial engines currently power aircraft operated by Indian airlines. GE Aerospace engines and systems are also used in the Indian Air Force Tejas Mk1 aircraft, helicopters, and Indian Navy warships.

The company also operates a Technology Centre in Bengaluru.
