Imphal: After a semblance of peace in Manipur, violence erupted again killing nine people including a woman in the past 24 hours in Khamenlok area.

Deaths were reported late night in gunfire, army sources reportedly said, giving rise to fears that situation is far from being normal yet.

Those injured in the violence are getting care in hospitals in capital Imphal.

Suggesting the severity of incident, sources said that some of those killed had cut marks and bullet injuries, according to NDTV.

The violence erupted amid efforts by the Centre to becalm the enmities between the Meitei and Kuki communities.

The over a month before the state saw widespread violence after two tribal groups took on each other, giving rise to the most horrific violence in recent times in India.

The fresh violence last night prompted authorities to withdraw relations in curfew.

Khamenlok, which is tense for a past couple of days, sits on the cusp of Kangpokpi and Imphal east districts.

The ethnic clashes, which began after tribal outfits protested Meities getting Scheduled Tribes status, already claimed 100 lives, alongside injuring numerous others.
