Chandigarh: An honest person cannot be restrained for long, and her father is one with a clear political image, Congress chief Punjab Navjot Singh Sidhu's daughter Rabia Kaur told Asian News International.

When Rabia was asked about Congress' decision to name current chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi as the ministerial candidate in the state, she responded that Congress, the Congress high command, might have had some compulsion to choose against her father. She added that she has no say in the matter, but it is good for Congress.

While taking a jibe at Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, she said there is no comparison between an honest man and a corrupt man.

Further, she took a dig at CM Channi, saying that an honest man and a corrupt man cannot be compared. As a daughter, it does not matter if her father is not the CM face for the state polls. But one day, he will achieve great things since his image is clear and there is no blot on his name, Rabia said.

She said every politician would have the baggage of corruption, but her father is honest with a clean image.

Last year, shortly after Charanjit Channi took the CM's chair, reports surfaced that there were tensions building between him and Navjot Sidhu. Channi took the helm after Captain Amarinder Singh decided to leave the chair. This was after a long-standing conflict between Sidhu and Amarinder Singh.

However, after Rahul Gandhi proclaimed the CM face on Thursday, Sidhu greeted the move. He said that all his 17-year political career, he never yearned for some particular posts, but the betterment of Punjab's population.

Punjab is heading to the polls on 20th February.
