The Editors Guild of India expressed serious concern over the Union government's decision to block the YouTube channel of the digital news outlet 4 PM News.

The Guild called for a transparent and accountable process to manage the removal of journalistic content. It criticized the government's move, noting that the action was taken without providing specific reasons or evidence, and without adhering to the principles of natural justice.

The Guild also emphasized that invoking national security should not be used as a means to suppress critical journalism or independent reporting, Scroll.in reported.

YouTube stated on Tuesday that the 4 PM News channel was made inaccessible in India following a government order citing concerns related to national security or public order.

The channel, which had around 7.3 million subscribers, was blocked without any clear explanation from the authorities regarding the reason behind the move.

According to editor-in-chief Sanjay Sharma, the action was an effort to suppress a prominent democratic voice under the guise of national security.

Reports from Newslaundry indicated that the channel had published multiple videos critical of the Narendra Modi-led government, particularly in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack.
