Drugs injected for 'thrill' by friend: 18 year-old dies of overdose
text_fieldsNew Delhi: An 18-year-old woman died from a drug overdose, which her male friend injected her as part of a ‘thrill-seeking experience’NDTV reported citing police.
The male friend reportedly took the woman, who had a job in Bengaluru, to a vacant place in Lucknow's Tiwariganj and injected a cocktail of medicine and an addictive drug.
The woman was to return to Bengaluru on April 7 when the incident occurred days after she had come to Lucknow on April 3.
She left her Mahanagar residence to catch the train to Bengaluru when she ended up taking the drug.
Police officer Anindya Vikram Singh said that the accused identified as Vivek Maurya, 28, of Barabanki has been arrested, adding‘He was staying at Mahanagar and was friends with the victim.’
As the woman’s condition worsened from the ‘cocktail of overdose’ the man called up UP112 for help and police rushed her to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital; however doctors later declared her dead.
As her family raised concerns of overdose a deliberate act to murder her, the accused however admitted to the police that the ‘thrill-seeking experiment ‘ had gone wrong.
Vivek Maurya claimed that the girl called him as she was leaving home seeking to consume the drug.
He took her to a vacant plot in Tiwariganj where he first administered the drug on himself before injecting the girl with it, the report said citing the police.
The investigation now revealed that the girl used to stay on rent with her family at Vivek’s house in New Hyderabad area in Luknow.
It is also reportedly found that Vivek was addicted to drugs and he made her consume them.
Following complaint by the victim’s family, police took the accused into custody, lodged an FIR and the body was taken for a post-mortem examination.
