Congress leader Shafi Parambil secured a significant victory in Vadakara, defeating CPI(M)’s KK Shailaja by a margin of around 1.13 lakh votes.

In the wake of this outcome, KK Rema, leader of the Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) and an ally of the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF), penned a touching note to Shailaja.

Rema's letter, shared on social media, was an appeal for Shailaja to maintain her composure and optimism despite the electoral loss. "When you leave, do not let the smile on your face fade," Rema wrote, emphasizing that Vadakara is a place where the people cherish smiles, love, and laughter.

Reflecting on the region's character, Rema expressed hope that Vadakara would continue to welcome political debates and focus on human values over religious differences in future elections. She reassured Shailaja that the land of Vadakara would still be a place for meaningful political discourse.

KK Shailaja, a former health minister of Kerala and a strong candidate for CPI(M), had been trailing behind Shafi Parambil since noon. By 3 pm, Shafi’s lead had extended to over 1.13 lakh votes, confirming his decisive victory.

In her heartfelt message, Rema alluded to the personal and political history of Vadakara, referencing her late husband, TP Chandrasekharan, who was murdered by CPI(M) workers in 2012 after rebelling against the party to form the RMP. She wrote, "Vadakara is a land that has sewn together whatever was severed, with an aching heart. The good people of this land cannot send anyone away crying. We are holding you close and giving you farewell."

Rema’s letter was accompanied by a photograph of herself and Shailaja, both smiling and holding hands, symbolizing solidarity and respect beyond political rivalry.

During the election campaign, Rema had stood up for Shailaja when a morphed video of the CPI(M) leader was circulated by her opponents. Even on the day of Shafi's victory march, Rema refused to participate in derogatory chants against Shailaja.
