DMK suspends member for alleged abuse of Governor
text_fieldsChennai: Tamil Nadu's ruling party DMK suspended a member after alleged abuse on state governor RN Ravi. The party member Shivaji Krishnamoorthy's statements come while a row is going on between the state government and the Governor, NDTV reported.
The state government and the Governor are at loggerheads over the latter's speech at the assembly.
Shivaji Krishnamoorthy attacked the Governor at a public gathering for the latter skipping parts of the speech prepared for him by the state government as per custom. Krishnamoorthy referred to BR Ambedkar and Periyar during his speech.
He said that if the Governor did not wish to take Ambedkar's name, he could go to Kashmir and get gunned down by extremists.
NDTV quoted him, "In Tamil Nadu if this man refuses to utter the name of Ambedkar, my forefather who gave the constitution to India, do I have the right to hit him with a slipper or not? Didn't you take an oath in the name of the constitution? Wasn't it Ambedkar, my grandfather, who wrote it? If you don't say his name, you go to Kashmir. We ourselves will send an extremist. Let him gun him down."
However, DMK maintained that the statements by their member were his personal opinion, but the party respects the Governor.
